Term 3 has seen three sports being delivered at St Joseph’s either after school or at lunchtime.
On Monday 5/6s enjoy playing Badminton with Margaret Lee coaching them through the finer points of the sport. On Tuesday the 3/4s also do Badminton. Margaret is a coach with the South East Badminton Association (SEBA). If you want to have some extra coaching SEBA is located at Springers Leisure Center, Keysborough.
On Wednesdays, twenty Year 5 students are enjoying playing Hot Shots tennis in the school hall at lunchtime. Stephen Sruk and his assistant Hendryk , from the Springvale North Tennis and Social Club are our coaches. The Hot Shots program has the philosophy of “learning through play”, which means that playing the game of tennis or a modified version of it, is the central feature of all sessions. All the students are enjoying the program. Already some of our students are playing tennis at the local club with Stephen.
On Thursday afternoon the Year 2s are involved in a ball skills program that leads into Basketball. Two coaches from the Melbourne Institute of Sport are helping our students to learn the skills involved in the sport.
What a fantastic day Thursday 31 August was for the annual Rugby League Gala day at Westall Primary School.
Members of Melbourne Storm provided a training session to all the teams who competed on the day before the competition began.
St Joseph’s entered two tackle teams (boys) and three tag teams (girls). Overall 62 students represented our school on the day.
After the preliminary rounds the two boys teams finished on top of the ladder and therefore played off in the Grand final. After two hard fought games the both teams were runners up.
The girls A tag team also finished on top of their pool. The girls B team finished second in their pool which meant these two teams had to play against each other for the right to play in the Grand Final. After a very even game the A team were victorious. Then in the Grand Final, after another evenly played game the girl’s team were runners up.
I was very proud of the way all our students played and conducted themselves. They showed great sportsmanship and were a credit to the school.
Thank you to Mrs Mahney, Mrs Medina, Mrs Ireno, Mrs Kapsalis and Miss Carlson for coaching and guiding the teams on the day.
Congratulations to the 45 Year 3 – 6s who competed and completed this year’s District Cross Country on Friday 2 June.
The students were a credit to the school.
The early morning training at school certainly helped all competitors to achieve pleasing results.
Four students were placed in the top ten runners – Crystal (6th in the 11 yrs girls), Thearith (6th in the 11 yrs boys), Angelina (5th in the 12/13 yrs girls) and Bianca (6th in the 12/13 yrs girls) Well done!
These students are now eligible to run at the Division Cross Country on Friday.
St Joseph’s school community wishes them all the best for the upcoming race.
Congratulations to the three teams, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball and Boys Tennis for making it through to the Semi-Finals for the Noble Park District Inter School Sport.
The Girls Basketball team and the Boys Tennis team competed well to make it into the Finals but their competition was better on the day.
The Boys Basketball team won their Semi-Final game against Wallarano and made it into the Grand Final. This is the first time a boys’ team has made it through to the Grand Final – a great achievement. They played their best and worked well as a team but unfortunately, they didn’t win. They therefore came runners up in the Noble Park District.
A big thank you to Alex, who has coached the students since last year.
Also thank you to Mrs Medina who coached the tennis teams.
Without the help of all teachers in the 5/6 level our District sports teams would not be so successful
I would like to congratulate all students who played throughout the term. Many of these teams finished in 3rd position in our pool of schools. It is always great to see you work in a team, show great team spirit and sportsmanship!
Check out the teams who made it through to the finals!!
